This January we have an amazing opportunity to impact over 500 organizations involved in discipleship building movements.

Over the past few months I’ve been working on some online Bible studies for online missionaries to use.I call them “Discovery Bible Studies” because the goal is for people to discover for themselves what God is like and how He wants us to live.

I showed my work to CityTeam International in San Jose earlier this month and they welcomed me with open arms  inviting me to their international leadership conference in mid-January.

CityTeam is one of the leaders in discipleship building movements. They have trained people in over 500 organizations.  In Africa they have started Discovery Bible Studies in more than 100 people groups. They now have over 600,000 people involved in 17,000 locations.

Some of their discipleship chains go to the 9th and 10th generation (My best chain is 3 generations: I helped Grace in Canada train Alphonse in a refugee camp in Mozambique who helped a friend start a group in a nearby town).

CityTeam is known to be at the forefront of keeping records verifying the growth of their discipleship movements. They are ready for change.  They have been trying to keep track of all their groups using Excel spreadsheets. When I showed them my website and how they can collect information about their groups over cell phones and display it on Google maps they immediately called their record keeper.  He said, Bob, I think you are my new best  friend.

While I was in San Jose I also met with Global Media Outreach (GMO). Their leadership was very interested in hearing about the Discovery Bible Studies I have held in our community and online. GMO wants to do a better job of discipling the 300,000 people who come to their evangelistic websites each day. They are considering two models: Discovery Bible Studies and T4T (Training for Trainers).  They asked if I would come to their annual planning meeting in mid-January to help design an experiment to see which of these two models would work best on the internet.

There is a lot to be done before January 14.  As I’ve talked with the people at CityTeam this past month, I see that I need to make a lot of changes in my software.

Development  takes time and money.  Its hard for me to predict how much it will cost to pull this project off. Earlier this week I learned that Google changed the way its mapping program works and it took me two days to implement their changes. I can assure you that I will be careful with how I spend the money and that I will regularly keep you informed of my progress.
